Sales department Chief I
2018 New graduate

There is a freedom to not be bound by convention.

INTERVIEW

What made you decide to join the company?

I was interested in the combination of the serious impression of manufacturing high-quality products for commercial use and the uniqueness of having many creative products that you can't find at other companies. The other deciding factors were that it was close to my house so the commute time wouldn't be a burden and there were no transfers.

What is your current job?

I work in the sales department and am in charge of sales to retailers such as home improvement centers and drug stores. I am in charge of proposing new national brand products, proposing sales promotions for products that have already been adopted, and developing private brand products. Private brand product development involves turning existing products such as mousetraps into private brand products, but we also develop products from scratch based on customer requests. I am involved in the entire process, from finding materials to prototyping, development, proposals, design creation, and after-sales support after adoption.

What is rewarding about your job?

It's rewarding to create products while exchanging opinions with retail buyers. Depending on your ideas and suggestions, you can make any product, and it's fun to watch your ideas gradually take shape. There are many things to consider, such as profit and efficiency, and it requires a wide range of knowledge, but the high degree of freedom is also attractive. When I see the product I worked so hard to develop being adopted and on display in the store, I feel that it was worth the effort. Also, I often go on business trips, so another good thing is that I can eat delicious food from all over Japan when I'm there.

What's good about SHIMADA?

It's easy to propose ideas to other employees about things you want to do in your daily work. Because there is freedom to think outside the box, you can proactively try new things.

Message for job seekers

I think there are many different things that people want to do and what they want from a company, but try to look at jobs from a broad perspective without being too caught up in stereotypes. After doing some research, I think this is a perfect fit for people who have a strong desire to work in an environment rich in nature and live a stable life.
