INTERVIEW

What made you decide to join the company?

I found SHIMADA while job hunting despite going through a difficult time as a student. There was only one mechanical engineering position available, so it was hard to get a position, but I think there was something about the company that I can't put into words that made me want to apply. When I first visited SHIMADA, I felt the good atmosphere of the building and the openness within the company. I also had a chance to speak directly with the president at the time, and I vividly remember feeling that I would be able to do rewarding work if I could join the company. The courteous treatment I received during visits and email exchanges, as well as the fact that I was able to visualize my future during conversations during interviews, were the deciding factors for me.

What is your current job?

I work hard in the Facilities Department. I manage all of the in-house facilities, including production equipment such as the machines on the line that produces adhesive sheets in the factory, as well as air conditioners, compressors, electrical equipment, and other facilities. In particular, when it comes to the machines in the factory, I think about how to make the factory better every day, and I am engaged in introducing new machines, improving and maintaining existing machines, and increasing efficiency by incorporating new equipment. I also repair and maintain machines, and my job is to "maximize the production capacity of the factory."

What is rewarding about your job?

I feel very rewarded when my proposals are accepted and put into practice. Every day, I listen to the opinions of the people on the manufacturing floor and think about how to improve the current situation based on what I feel when observing the work scene. Sometimes we use machines and equipment, but there are also areas that can be improved by changing the work method or layout. Of course, if it does not benefit the company, it will end up being just self-satisfaction, but when such proposals are accepted and actually implemented, it makes me very happy when production figures go up and I hear positive feedback from the workers.

What's good about SHIMADA?

As I mentioned earlier, I feel that they are always positive about suggestions from employees. This is true not only of the management team that makes the final decision, but also of the superiors of each department who listen to suggestions. If there are concerns about the content of a proposal, they will give advice, and sometimes they will present positive aspects. Of course, there are times when a proposal is not accepted for a reason, but I have never had a proposal rejected outright. I think this is because they respect the position and opinions of those of us who make proposals, based on the experience and knowledge they have gained in the process of the company's growth. I am very grateful to be able to work in such an environment.

Message for job seekers

When researching SHIMADA, you may have come across words like "mousetrap" and "adhesive sheet." Some of you may have thought, "I've never handled anything like that before..." or "Adhesive sheet?!", but I think most people who work at SHIMADA now were the same before they joined the company. At least, that's how I felt about it myself. Now I spend my days loving the products so much that I can't help but go and see them lined up at home improvement stores. I'm sure that not everyone is like that, but I guarantee that at SHIMADA, you can experience manufacturing that can only be found here.
